1 John 3:18
My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
1 John 4:7-8
Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
1 John 4:11-12
11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. 12 If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.
1 John 4:16-21
16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. 17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. 19 We love him, because he first loved us. 20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? 21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
This is about love and the inspiration behind this comes from 1 John Chapter Four.
These scriptural passages give us a yard stick by which we can measure or determine if our love is correct or Godlike.
Our love for God and for our fellowman must be manifested in our deeds and in the truth of our life. No just in word and tongue. We can declare love by our tongue but our deeds and the way we live our life speaks more about our love than just words.
Love is a core attribute of God and His son Jesus Christ. Part of our being born again is manifested not just in lip service but in our loving God. The more we love everyone including the “unloveable” the more we learn of God. Because God is love or rather God embodies the essence of Love and no one can love like Heavenly Father. You can know Him with some degree of love in you. The more you love the more like Heavenly Father you become.
The scriptures teach us that because The Lord loved us and we are supposed to follow the teaching of The Lord then we should strive to love one another. As we love one another then Gods love dwells in us even more until it becomes perfected in us.
If we love one another then our lives should demonstrate that love. We should manifest our love in the work place, in our business dealings, in sportsmanship, in any form of competition, in all aspects of our life. We should deomstrate our love by being happy for our friends or neighbors when they get something nice. Not covet.
Our love should turn us from sin and our love should turn us towards keeping Gods Commandments. If we strive to love like God then we should strive to be like Heavenly Father. How do we become like Him? Learn and keep His commandments. Read from our scriptures everyday asking ourselves as we read, how does this apply to me? How can I use these verses to better myself and become more like my Savior?
Love is the root of keeping the commandments and righteous living. If we all love more fully then the murder rate would cease to be a statistic. Violents crimes would cease. We would have no more disposition to hurt people if we love them.
Loving God, ourselves and our fellowman is the cure for everything. It puts everything into perspective.
“God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him”. The harder we strive to love our fellowman including the so-called “unloveable” then the more we will have the love of God with us. It’s not easy to love everyone but it will get easier the longer we strive to love because when we feel Gods love in us we feel more like giving that love to others.
When the day of judgement comes upon us many will shrink and fear the judgement becasue of all the wrongs committed by ourselves and for our failure to love. However if we take this counsel and commandments to love one another then we won’t fear the judgement but look forward to our reward because we know we are on Gods side.
” There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear”. With perfect love we need not fear the judgement, we need not fear what man can do to us. We need not fear the tribulations of life becasue as we demonstrate our love by the way we live our life then we know that the end will bring rich rewards in the Kingdom of Heaven.
I love this passage of scripture so much it bears repeating “If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?”
When it comes to love there is no leeway. There is no way to fake it. Of course we can’t fake anything with Heavenly Father watching over us. It’s easier to love family and friends who do good to you but what about loving those who cut you off when your driving or loving those who flip you off when driving or what about loving those who beat you soundly on the field of competition. What about loving your enemy? Do you pray for those who despitefully use you?
Love is not a two way street. We are commanded to love everyone with a God like love. If that love is not returned then we are to keep on loving them. We need to love those who hurt our feelings. We need to love those who do wrong by us. We don’t nessacarily need to trust or respect certain people but we need to forgive them and love them.
In closing lets us quote from scripture “And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also”.
